Flash is the fastest mobility in the game. It is faster than ezreal’s arcane shift, kassadin’s rift walk, vayne’s tumble, and tristana’s rocket jump. Yes, the distance they offer is superior, but all of these skills have cast time or delay before moving the champion. Flash has no delay at all; press the key and it is instantly used.

Flash can be used in a lot of ways. It can be used for offensive and defensive purpose; it makes some skill to be landed easily or dodge skill shots. Correct usage means a kill or an escape.
Not having flash is a disadvantage. Without flash, the enemy is not threatened by your presence in the early game. The enemy will simply flash out if things go out of hand, and the individual who does not have flash cannot chase or escape.

Some players don’t want to get flash. Instead, they get ignite and teleport. Teleport is a standard summoner’s spell for a top laner. Usually, players often go with flash and teleport.
Ignite would come out on top on head to head combat, but flash could simply disengage to ignite. And ignite only works efficiently in the early game to get those first blood ecstasies.
In league of legends, the distance is always the problem. Players are troubled that when they get too close, the enemy would be vigilant and be able to react accordingly. But with flash, they could go in and surprise the enemy before they could react accordingly.
